We have worked with Manzo Elementary since the fall of 2010. The school has a garden and ecology program that is integrated into the curriculum of every classroom in the school. Our interns worked with students and staff of the school to construct a desert biome garden, a desert tortoise habitat, active and passive rainwater harvesting systems, a vegetable garden, and a small heritage fruit tree orchard, a school wide composting program, and an aquaponics system. They have worked the Ecology Program Coordinator at the school to develop lesson plans that make these teaching spaces come alive for the students at the school. Manzo is primarily looking for interns to help work with teachers to deliver in-class and outdoor garden and ecology based lessons and activities. They also need people to help collect compostable food scraps in the cafeteria M-F 11:30-1:30.
